Age related changes in blood pressure and hypertension
Special Topics Epidemiology: Cardiovascular Diseases (PHS 904) is an introductory course for students interested in cardiovascular research, prevention, or management. PHS 940-CV provides students with an overview of how cardiovascular diseases are diagnosed, what their impact on population health is, what factors increase their risk, what prevention tools are currently available, and what the main gaps in knowledge about these diseases are.
My main research interest resides in the identification of genetic, environmental, social and behavioral factors that influence the development of diseases and health related events in human populations. More specifically, I am interested in the identification of factors that influence the level of blood pressure and increase the risk of the developing arterial hypertension in the population and how the effect of these factors change with age. Factors associated with hypertension could eventually be used to indenfify high risk subjects, as therapeutic markers, and as target for the development of preventive and therapeutic interventions.
